Muratec MFX 1700

The Muratec MFX-1700 is an improved version of the Muratec MFX-1300. This digital copier and printer machine also has the ability to fax and scan documents. The MFX-1700’s main claim to fame is its copying facility that can be easily transformed into a network printer by using the PC suite.

Copying features of the MFX-1700 include both the positive and negative copies along with sorting and stacking options. Zoom increments and program-ahead options are also available on Muratec’s MFX-1700. The copier has a shared memory of 8MB that can be extended to 16MB. An auto document feeder is present in Muratec MFX-1700 along with a standard 550 sheet tray. Copy enlargement of up to 200% is possible and it can be reduced to 50% by using the scaling settings. It can print up to 17 copies per minute and offers a resolution of 600 dpi with standard toner cartridges.

Laser printing features enable users to complete their assignments and projects on time. Printing speed is average, ranging from 11 pages per minute to 15 pages per minute; print quality, however, is very satisfactory. Network printing and PC printing can be improved by embedding the optional Ethernet and other connectivity features into the Muratec MFX-1700. It can be turned into a powerful desktop printer by adding the optional connectivity features and using the OfficeBridge Online option.

TheMFX-1700 has a better fax machine than the Muratec MFX-1300. It has a modem that offers speed of up to 33.6 kbps that is faster than the 14.4 kbps offered by Muratec’s MFX-1300. The fax shares the 8MB memory with the copier which is standard in most of this class of machine. The fax machine works perfectly fine under normal circumstances with no memory issues seen in our tests. Broadcasting to up to 230 locations is available and a memory of 650 pages is available on the Muratec MFX-1700. Speed dialing and speakerphone features are also available but a handset is absent. Fax transmission speed is estimated at around two pages per second.

The Muratec MFX-1700 is Energy Star compliant and offers an average consumption of power; sleep mode does offer a relatively high conservation. The MFX-1700 has the same weight as the Muratec MFX-1300, at 51.4lbs. The Muratec MFX-1700 however, is a better machine that can be easily situated in small offices while being equally good for home use.
