We have an HP LaserJet 4000n printer in our office as part of our workgroup. Its my job to look after it, which I dont mind a bit because its so easy. We have had it for years, having bought it sometime in 1999, and its still going strong. Thanks to dealers like Quikshiptoner.com we can keep it running until the print engine dies or something catastrophic happens.
The great thing about it is that it just sits there, waiting for something to do. There is no drama, no flashing lights, no waiting for ages for it to warm up or print a test page at the beginning of every day. It sits, connected to the network and seems to leap into action when you press print. I know its me putting a human face on it but thats what it feels like.
We have had other printers come and go, while the LaserJet 4000n has sat beside them printing away quite happily as they burned out and expired. It has outlasted about five other printers, a couple of them inkjets from a very well known and respected manufacturer and other lasers from equally renowned companies.
Its a standard 600 dpi printer that prints remarkably well. The HP drivers do something clever to make it print the equivalent of 1200 dpi when we need something detailed. That makes a real difference when we print brochures or leaflets and stuff. The text printing is clear and easily legible from a distance. Photographs are pretty good too. We sometimes print them for cover art and they end up looking really nice.
Like I said, looking after the printer is easy. We have to change cartridges every 15,000 pages or so, and obviously keep the 500 sheet paper drawer full, but thats all there is to it. There is no drum or fuser to worry about, as its all on one cartridge. The belt is a lifetime part and we have had no problems with it so far.
I like the LaserJet 4000n, it doesnt need much attention and does exactly what its supposed to do. It just works, and gives us decent prints at a decent speed, which is all we need really.
