This HP Color LaserJet CM2320nf is a compact and well designed multifunction, with a decent set of features. Eminently suitable for smaller workgroups or offices that dont print all that much, its a decent multifunction to have around.
In addition to the 250-sheet paper drawer and 50 sheet multipurpose tray, an extra 550 sheet drawer is also available. The automatic document feeder holds a further 50 for copying or scanning. It doesnt do automatic duplexing, but helpfully prompts users through the manual duplexing process. The control panel is fairly straightforward and easy to use. All buttons are clearly labeled and placed logically so even those with thicker fingers should have no trouble getting things done.
The package includes the HP Document Manager software for controlling scans and faxes. The documentation does a nice job of covering the devices main functions but is a little light on some details. Fortunately the system is intuitive enough for you to figure it out.
HP claim that the device has a top speed of 21 pages per minute for both black and white text and color printing, but in our tests the machine managed only 17 for text and 4.1 for color images. While falling short of the advertising, it is above average for this kind of device.
Text output is outstanding, with fonts standing out sharply, even at small point sizes. Most of the LaserJet CM2320nfs color prints appeared to be somewhat rich, but five minutes in the configuration panel sorted that one. Apart from that minor issue, print quality is excellent overall.
The toners are the single cartridge variety. They all slot into a horizontal drawer and generally stay out of the way. A black cartridge is good for 3,500 sheets and a color for 2,800. This single cartridge means no more messing around with drums and fusers, and only one consumable to change when the time comes.
The scan and fax operations offer the basic functions and perform well even though they are usually the least used functions on these devices. Overall the CM2320nf is a complete and capable package, easily capable of coping with anything you could throw at it.
