Out of the box, the printer is easy to install and only takes a few minutes to configure. The standard connection options are parallel and USB, with the option to have networking as an upgrade. The chassis is modest, measuring only 14 inches wide by 16 deep and 10 inches tall. It doesn’t weight much either, at a little over 25 pounds. I wouldn’t let that make you think it wasn’t up to much though, quite the opposite.
The control panel and LCD screen is intuitive and clear. The green backlit screen contrasting nicely with the black and grey chassis. It makes a nice change to have office equipment in a color other than beige or white. The black and grey of the E350 is a nice contrast, and looks good next to other devices.
The E350 has a 250 sheet paper drawer, which can be expanded to 1050 with a pair of optional expansion drawers. The expansion options don’t stop there either. You can upgrade the memory, paper drawers, network connections, paper finishing, and even add stapling.
Print quality is good with crisp edges on all the text and excellent image reproduction. Toner spread is very even and there were very few artifacts or banding on our image heavy pages. Despite being mono in a world of color, the E350 can easily hold its own against the competition.
Replacement toner cartridges are currently around $50 and will last a good 4500 pages, with a high yield option giving 9000 for $78. A new drum is around $69 and will keep going up to around 25000 pages. So overall, pretty reasonable running costs over the longer term.
All in all, this is a product worthy of consideration and seems well placed in its niche market. It has everything a mono printer needs with the option to expand along with the user’s needs. Not everyone wants the expense or has the need for color laser printing, and the E350 is the ideal candidate for those people. A good, high quality printer at a reasonable price.
