Multipurpose printers are “in” these days and HP simply hates to stay behind, thus it brings to us the HP LaserJet 3100. With a built-in copying, faxing and scanning mechanism to add to its printing functionality, this printer is a must buy for those who need communication in their daily work.
With its maximum copying speed reaching 6 pages per minute, this laser printer may not be the fastest laser printer on the block, however its 600 x 600 dpi resolution improves the printouts’ quality thus compensating for the lack of speed. Making up for this is the instant-on fuser. This eliminates warm up time so you won’t need to wait a single second for the first page to start printing.
The printer has a 100-sheet tray for input that comes with a single-sheet priority feed slot. The output bin accommodates 100 sheets and can be used during envelope printing. Plus, aside from paper, other media can be used, starting from one as light as transparencies and all the way to heavier ones like card stock.
The HP LaserJet 3100’s copying facility is just as slow at 6 pages per minute, and the resolution is less (300 x 300 dpi). Copied photos are produced at a resolution of 300 dpi whereas copied text is presented with a 600 dpi resolution. The copier in this printer can produce 1-99 copies of the same documents and even provide reduction and enlargement of documents by 50% and 200% respectively.
As for the HP LaserJet 3100’s fax facility, pages are sent at a speed of 6 seconds per page. The resolution of each fax can vary based on your own specifications, however, the range can go from as low as 209 x 98 dpi to a height of 300 x 300 dpi. Other features include a 30-sheet document tray, a memory that can store up to 150 pages, automatic fax/answering machine switching and other specifications that are found in quality fax machines.
The fourth feature, which is the scanning mechanism, provides a resolution of 300 dpi, but this can be enhanced using software from the utilities CD, thus enabling it to reach a maximum of 600 dpi. 6 pages per minute can be scanned with scannable areas ranging from 51 x 89mm to 216 x 991mm.
A one year extendable warranty comes with the HP LaserJet 3100, so you can always contact the HP help center for even simple queries such as a change of toner. Printing, copying, faxing and scanning are now made easier and more reliable with this printer making it ideal for those environments where time isn’t so precious.
